Our Story
Hazelnut Farm was the brain child of its owners after purchasing the property in disrepair. Covered in weeds that demanded the property be fully bull-dozed because the stalks were as thick as tree trunks, nobody would have imagined that the property could look like it does today. Well nobody except the vision of two special people that molded it themselves to become the premiere wedding & event venue in the area. One step at a time, the lake was revealed and garden beds, pathways, and outdoor features like the island were added.
The House Renovation
First came the farmhouse flip!
The first time the owners entered the old house which could have been considered condemnable, there were deer which had taken up residence in the basement! They took the house down to its studs to keep the original framework but completely reworked the floorplan to open up and modernize it. The pool deck was added and the home became a true weekend getaway for them. There was just one thing - the dilapidated concrete block barn that sat adjacent to their new retreat. How could this become a way for them to share their beautiful property with others?

The Barn Build
After some calls to local wedding professionals who came to visit the property, it was clear that if the proposed wedding venue was built in any manner similar to the home's design, people would certainly rush to enjoy it on their wedding or event day! They saw the need in Louisville for a venue that was both in the country and embracing of Kentucky's roots while offering a formal ballroom like setting. After 2 years of acquiring permits, drilling through solid rock foundation, and building through one of the wettest Winter seasons, the first event was held on May 18, 2019.

Hazelnut Farm has always put an emphasis on inclusivity for all couples. We hope that any couples that self identify within the LGBTQ+ community can feel a loving acceptance and excitement to celebrate from their first steps in the door. There will never be discrimination of treatment in regards to faith, creed, or color from our staff. Ceremonies of any faith being held either on our property or offsite with Hazelnut Farm festivities to follow will be equally respected. Our property has also been built with accessibility of all guests in mind and ADA compliancy has been followed to ensure couples or guests with mobility needs can celebrate comfortably as well.
Hazelnut Farm prides itself on this mission statement and has done so since opening. These principles were made clear to our community since the initial town hall meetings before groundbreaking and will continue to be an important part of our operations and best practices.
While our team makes a conscientious effort to these ends everyday in our messaging online and in person, we are always striving to improve.
